Ever wondered how a spaceship gets built? Or have you just enjoyed watching them blast off? When I met systems engineer Julie Wolfson a few months ago, I thought it was so cool that she was part of building a spacecraft that will one day (in the 2030s) send people to Mars. I had fun learning about one of the many jobs that contributes to making a spacecraft ready to fly, and to finding out about what kind of girl might like doing Julie's job- in her case, one who liked math and latin and could repair a VCR on her own.
Growing up, Julie Wolfson had a knack for taking things apart and putting them back together. Today, she works as a systems engineer on the Orion spacecraft for Lockheed Martin, identifying, assessing and addressing risk in Orion's software systems and managing an Agile project team. A Memphis native, Julie loves knowing she'll get to say "That's my spaceship!" when Orion takes people into space.
